Press Release - Prado Museum
The Prado Museum presents the exhibition "Velázquez and the family of Felipe IV", sponsored by the AXA Foundation and in which for the first time the activity as a portraitist developed by the great Sevillian master in the last eleven years of his career in the service of the king is analyzed and the continuation of that work by his successors Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo, his son-in-law, and Juan Carreño, during the 1660s and 1670s.
29 works will present the most important set of portraits made in the Spanish court during the period to which Las Meninas belongs, one of the peaks of his painting and whose copy made by Martínez del Mazo and from Kingston Lacy (The National Trust) will be exhibited, among other works, for the first time in Spain.
In addition, the exhibition invites us to reflect on one of the moments with greatest personality of Velázquez's career and the reign of Felipe IV, perhaps the king with the greatest knowledge in painting that history has known.
After studying History at the University and after many previous tests, Red Historia was born, a project that emerged as a means of dissemination where you can find the most important news of archeology, history and humanities, as well as articles of interest, curiosities and much more. In short, a meeting point for everyone where they can share information and continue learning.
